BT82s are stunningly insensitive to running lean! On the old National air cooled motor, if you ran 1/16th of a turn past PERFECT towards 'lean' you could be pretty damned sure of a seize within 5 laps!
We have run (accidentaly.... and through stupidity) one WHOLE TURN lean on a BT82 slow jet and had no problems AT ALL! Think when the LAST time you saw a BT82 sieze.......
BT82s are sensitive to their carb settings for their POWER output but pretty bomb-proof from the point of view of seizing!
I'd still recommend a quick choke if you are leading by miles, if it's a hot day, if you need to GUARANTEE a finish rather than just need a 'win'..... etc. etc.
