I was really referring to when we are using a smaller drive sprocket.

The effect is similar to using the driven sprocket too close to the drive sprockets but the increased wear through more frequent use of each tooth comes from a (for example) 9 tooth drive on a TKM than using a 10 tooth. We choose to do that as it allows us (on tight circuits, e.g., Rye House) to use a smaller driven sprocket and thus avoid 'grounding' the chain round the driven sprocket.
