Hi im a biy confused with denso plugs

iw24 = hot plug
iw31 = cold plug

does this mean iw24 will burn hotter on piston?
and iw31 less heat on piston?

reason im asking as im running very lean even with a 172 jet a iw27 showing white and dry after 10 laps
senior max 8.5 carb needle 98 on rich setting.
i have also tried 12.5 carb this makes it worse.

the engine is only 90 mins old no air leaks i know of
really stuck and dont no what else to try.
my spare engine runs ok with a 162 jet and plug is wet.
but around .7 sec lap slower
please help guys thanks
