I'm assuming that you are after what gearing to use at a new track.
Experience will tell you, where to roughly start, or failing that ask at the track what others are running. Some will tell you at worst a rough range. There are other ways to research many tracks will have advise on gearing on there website. Also the track guide book from Karting Magazine gives gearing guidance. Not forgetting the Chart on LKRC website. Or even ask specific track advise on here.
You could try measuring the main straight length on Google earth and comparing to other tracks where you do know the gearing. Its all about preparation.
Go from there, as said previously advised.
