The sprocket carrier is the type that allows you to mount the sprocket on either side.

The other side of that carrier has a rebate exactly the same as the unused one you can see.

It depends on the chassis and how the engine is mounted on the mount as to whether you use the other side.

It just makes it a bit more of a fiddle when you change the sprocket.
