.........................................

Proposed regulation changes for the Formula TKM 2-stroke and 4-stroke classes for 2010 have now been approved by the MSA and ABkC and will come into force from January 1, 2010.

The regulation changes have been agreed after extensive research by class owners Tal-Ko Racing on the views of the many UK drivers and traders involved in the class. They confirm the switch from homologated karts to any kart, but still subject to strict specification rules.

They also include changes in Junior weight/restrictor configuration to make it easier for small and larger drivers to be on equal terms, and a choice of two Senior Extreme class weights.

Alan Turney, Managing Director of Tal-Ko Racing, says: “These are the largest changes we have made to the 2-stroke class regulations. But after nearly 20 years the time was right to modernise the class in line with the general trends within karting. We know we have a very solid base of drivers who like this move and hope we can also attract many more in now that it is easy to use an existing kart chassis. We offer the best value kart racing and that’s how we intend to stay.”

Full detail regulations will be issued on the Tal-Ko website next week but brief details are as follows:

Formula TKM 2-Stroke

- Any kart permitted which meets MSA direct drive regulations.

- Kart must have no caster/camber adjustment (can be achieved by using central bushes to neutralise).

- Rear axle up to 50mm but still retained in only two bearings. (Remove central 3rd bearing if required)

- Torsion bars etc not permitted (can be removed if fitted).

- Front brakes not permitted.

- New modern construction and formulation green label dry weather Maxxis tyre to match latest EEC ‘green’ requirements.

- New lighter and heavier categories within the Junior class together with associated restrictor sizes to equalise performance across a wider spread of sizes and reduce the weight of lead on karts.

- Revised Senior Extreme weight with 4kg on minimum weight to help taller/heavier drivers and lighter category with restrictor to equalise for all lighter drivers.

In addition Tal-Ko have announced that there will be small upgrades on the new TAG (touch and go) specification engines to equalise performance against direct drive engines. These will be carried out free of charge for existing owners and will be announced in detail within the next month.

Formula TKM 4-Stroke

- Creation of two weight/restrictor categories within the Junior class to equalise performance across a wider size range.

- Junior karts will switch to new era green label Maxxis dry weather slick tyre. Seniors will remain on stickier red label tyre.

- Minor changes to carburettor jet sizes permitted.

Full regulations will be published next week available for free download from the Tal-Ko website.
