I'm not sure your accusations of an "Elitist world" are really justified. Of course, new comers are more than welcome and enjoying the weekend, speaking to new people and possibly making friends with some is a great side of karting which should never disappear, please don't get me wrong!
But for the interest of the class and its future they need to give the class the foundations to provide level playing field which it does at the moment without costing a fortune.
Surely the changes should look after the core customers interests; those who are passionate about the class and racing, and winning, because after all, thats what we all want to do. (Even though it sounds like some of us are starting the weekend with a bit of a defeatist attitude). But the changes are effecting backbone of the class in a way that goes against everything TKM is supposed to stand for. An affordable, level playing field where everyone has the equipment to win (even though it seems like some dont want too).
