The uncertainty over all of the new variables that are being introduced was beginning to outweigh what I feel are some positive changes for the class.

With that in mind I emailed Talko the following questions this morning and have included Grahames response (I know that the TAG engine response has been included in more detail in an earlier post).

I believe something similar is going to be published on their website in due course.

My questions.
1. How have the new tyres performed in testing. What was the difference in lap times and durability
2. Have you tested a CIK chassis on the new tyres against an existing TKM chassis
3. Has the improved TAG been track tested against current DD and clutched engines if not how was your decision reached

Grahames response.
New tyres, same hardness reading as old but modern construction. We were getting about 0.5 sec a lap improvement at Whilton Mill. Durability excellent. For example we did the equivalent of three race meetings straight off and they still looked excellent.

The question of CIK versus TKM chassis is complicated as are any comparison between karts of any type. The TKM chassis is slightly smaller and more nimble. It is designed to work on the tyres and with the power. CIK karts made for stickier tyres and more powerful engines. Larger and can seem less nimble. A Junior will very likely find the TKM much nicer. A large guy might prefer the CIK. I have personally done back to back tests (and I am tall) and the CIK felt nicer but there was nothing in it on the stopwatch.

TAG engine has been extensively tested on the dyno to give a similar power curve which is by far the best way of equalising performance. We also have some engines now doing track tests. The spec will be finalised we expect later this month. We have no intention of the TAG engine being quicker. We just want it to be comparable
