For me, the biggest difference in feel is under braking. There is something a lot more confidence inspiring about dd.
I tried an absolute beginner (junior) in 3 karts a few weeks back. He tried a minimax, a clutched tkm and a dd tkm. Due to the number of times I watched him spin the minimax and clutched tkm I was nervous about letting him try out the dd kart and thought I might have to do a lot of pushing. I was quite shocked that he actually preferred the dd kart and only spun once. His dad was impressed as it was the cheapest option :-)
If you're nervous about dd then buy a clutched engine and you can always change to dd later
