Matt, Replace the cap, it's a cheap part anyway, I have not had one fail myself but they do present problems especially if the cap of the plug itself is loose. Is there any soot like blackening on the plug when you remove the lead? if so this could well be the route of the problem especially as the motor is second hand and you do not know all of its history. Maybe the coil and cap are older than the motor, you have no way of knowing unless it is one ot the 09 spec coils with the green surround to the wireing plug which I think is unlikely!
