I had this as well last year. It was slimy and stringy just like you say.

Does it have any effect? Bottom line is I am not sure....We normally run in the top 5 but this day at Rissi last year we ran well down the field (always when the family come to watch). When we got home I checked the fuel and water was evident. I bought the fuel from a local garage and it was not good (Now bought Mr Funnel). But the other thing I found was the golf ball size white slime in my oil bottle. I will never know which caused the problem but the fuel and oil went in the bin...Next time out back to normal.
