Alfie....

Don't take ANYONE's word for it, go and TRY something for yourSELF.

1) Remove the rear bumper from the 'designated' kart

2) Re-attach ONE side to the 'wrong' side so that the bumper is now OUTSIDe the kart, and tighten it up to your heart's content.

3) Guess ROUGHLY how far the rear of you chassis deflects in the most severe event (1 inch as a MAXIMUM) and move the 'loose' end of you bumper by that amount and see how much force THAT takes..... you'll be SHOCKED at how little it takes.

If you want to see HOW much force it takes to move the bumper that far simply hang small kitchen weights to it until it DOES move by 1 inch....... Don't bring KILOs of weight..... it'll not need THAT much....

Usually, your bumper is mounted at BOTH ends
so we can guess it will take DOUBLE the weight to twist TWO of the mountings when it's mounted properly..... and that's STILL be B*GGER ALL

Now..... mount the CHASSIS firmly into clamps and try the same thing with the chassis.... find how much weight it takes to move a firmly mounted chassis by as much as ONE INCH.... again.... you'll be SHOCKED.... you'll need kilograms of lead THIS time....

And THAT will show you how much or little the bumper adds to the stiffness.

You won't need to have an OPINION..... you'll know the FACTS and you won't need to take a SOUL's word for it.... you'll actually KNOW!

This stuff is NOT rocket science!

Oh..... and karting hasn't moved on a GREAT deal since the Techno chassis of the early 1960s..... I've been WATCHING it since just before then and I can tell you, it's STILL the same!

Ian
