In France tyres are marked with spray paint right around the rolling surface and you are not allowed to clean them, it's a nightmare for the young kids and can be a gift for the more experienced drivers in the class with better engines, who can keep engines clean.

If the no tyre cleaning rule was inforced it would ruin some of the racing. Simply because the gap between the front and back would extend by a large margin, especially with the tendency towards softer & softer rubber for other classes.

With a good driver you can set the kart up for less grip and by adopting a billy sideways driving style for one or two corners a lap keep the tyres clean. However less experienced drivers just end up with the equivalent of muddy wellies at the end of the day and can lose seconds in pace. However if the track is bad, even better drivers are scared to go off line , because a big bit of rubber picked up can ruin their weekend.

Granted, track conditions , tyre compounds and classes are different in France, but the same would apply.
