The main things which controls the revs are:-
1) Your Driving skills 2) The ratio of the driver sprocket to the drive sprocket....i.e., the SIZE of your rear sprocket 3) Carburation 4) Ignition
In that order.
What gear ratio (rear sprocket) were you using?
The BIGGER the rear sprocket, the faster the acceleration will be.... BUT the lower top speed that you can possibly reach.
AND.....
Until the engine gets to it's possible maximum revs (where the engine just starts to run out of power as the revs get higher), then the higher the revs that you will reach each time you INCREASE the size of the rear sprocket (by 1 tooth at a time while you are learning).
