The difficulty is that the Kart Sporting Committee accepted that there was a need to protect the 'heavy cadet / light junior' by offering another class.

While there exists a pefectly good formula that could accept such drivers (the general formula of regulating kart power and kart weight in relation to driver weight as in Formula Blue) it was felt that the sheer physics of the strength needed to control a kart travelling at those speeds (ie close to Senior classes) and the disparate strengths of a weedy 12 year old as against a hulking 16 year old created a niche.

Unfortunately decisions handed down through the MSA have been sufficiently flawed that one suspects that consistency is lacking.

For example, not long ago Junior Blues were slowed down to half a second slower than Senior Blues while other junior classes continued to be faster, and recently the JTKM tyres took that class up through the same barrier, so the logic seems to whimsical at the very least.

Elsewhere class rules regarding bodywork seem to suggest that expensive compliance with CIK bodywork is mandatory, except in TKM because it isn't raced abroad. Since the majority of drivers are not competing in international series and there doesn't seem to be a significant number of bodywork failures , it suggests that previous homologations of undamaged bodywork were quite safe for club racing. Obviously drivers who are competing in CIK qualifying races should comply with the latest regs and any significant safety improvement, like the switch to bodywork from bars, should be brought forward.

Of course, there may be good explanations available for these decisions, but they are not made or not published satisfactorily or seem dubious at best, an excuse for introducing a class rather than not.

I'm in favour of allowing any class to be introduced, providing the playing field is maintained at a level. Classes will sink or swim depending on their popularity and clubs should respond by putting on the classes that are prevalent in their region.

Indeed I could see an advantage in new 'club based' classes raced in addition to national classes. So there is room at some tracks for a Formula BluKM, a combined grid racing Blues and TKM's on a standard tyre and with BLUKM restrictors ( I suspect that actually running Blues and TKMs on standard tyre alone would produce similar performance, but inevitably there will be a weight where one class or restrictor combination would have an advantage, so needing BluKM restrictors as well).

Now, if the grid of either class grew so big as to warrant separation, they would race on 'national' rules (so national rules for NKRA, NKF, and SuperOne events and so on) or in clubs where there weren't 'other classes'.

It won't happen because drivers will complain that they need to have two sets of tyres and the importers of the tyres will complain of their 'lost revenue' and put the cost of their tyres or other goods up to compensate.
