It's optional.

I've never found a problem with not fitting the smaller one but I suppose you could get a bit of leakage past the base, although with a piston flying up and down at 12k plus, that piston is going to lift anyway.

Unless it's the new '10 power valve which are **** and require some fettling with a file to get them to operate as they should.
