I suspect he may well regret saying that at some point. The rules are pretty clear (7.8.3) and it's an offence to accelerate in any way before the yellow line (assuming there was one of course) So assuming pole accelerated at the yellow line and George has admitted to "getting his foot down earlier than the pole sitter"by hanging back, sounds like an admission of guilt to me and accelerating early. That said, it's the starter's responsibility to spot that and drivers will always do their best to gain any advantage.Very hard to spot and I suspect the advantage was very marginal if they crossed the line side by side. But that extra acceleration was enough to take the position.
I'd hate to be a starter!
