fair enough to keep back a bit as you have to react to the pole mans speed and stay behind him or be level crossing the s/f line
i cant see how being behind gives you an advantage tho, unless you are gradually creeping up on the pole man. if you simply react faster to the green light, wouldnt you have been better to have been closer to the poleman? it would also stop any call of breaking formation early.
if you dont care what the 2nd place guy does at the start then he should always pass the pole man at the start
