I agree that certainly having the ability to "spanner" your own driver is an advantage. All drivers start as novices and only hard work, dedication, sacrifices and learning by mistakes made make the driver into an end product whilst still always learning....my figures are based on our own experiences....last year we worked hard on securing a sponsor to enable my boy to race in UK and Europe this year at top level, this could not have been achieved without proving his results/prospective results etc...which was initially gained by me spannering him on the kind of figures Ive mentioned...it's a kind of " Chicken and Egg " syndrome.... What I'm trying to advocate is that people CAN compete at top level and against the best without having to spend the same money as they....like most when starting, I hadn't a clue how to even change a bl**dy sprocket Lol....
And finally....budget.... what is a budget in karting ? Ive often been asked the question and my simple answer was always I haven't a clue, I simply somehow generate the funds needed to race ! ( Selling the Big Issue seemed attractive at one stage )
