We have just done two seasons of non msa karting and loved it. We won trophys and had a blast with some great clean racing. We spent very little but it still stretched us and i know with a few more grand we could of done a lot better.

People turn up with karts in home made trailers, on roof racks etc. Theres no way i could afford a budget of 15k even if i made the sacrifices scoobyscene has.

You have to be realistic about what you want to achieve with the money you have. There is ways of doing karting on a shoe string but to compete at a certain level you have to have a certain budget even though you can punch abover your weight most of the time.

We are looking at doing MSA TKM at club level and i know we will have to box clever to do well. I dont think the MSA wants the guy who turns up in an estate car representing there grass roots level sport. After all motorsport has always been favoured by the rich and wealthy.

In 2004 i was third in a club championship for 1800 quid. Unless i got really good sponsorship or a job with about fifteen grand more or my business takes off then it will be either non msa or club racing and thats fine. Sometimes the best buzz can be beating someone who has much more than you. Money doesn't always talk but it certainly helps in motorsport.
