Honestly, Poddy....

Bump starting is JUST a 'knack'. It does NOT require strength or fitness!! If you want to try, I can send you a set of easy instructions on how to start one almost effortlessly! Most of it is down to getting 'number 1 son' to LEAN FORWARD as you lift him which cutrs the weight YOU lift down a LONG way. If he's as big as you say, it'll be a PUSH OVER to teach him how to do the 'run and jump' start which will cut the lifted weight even further! JUst watch the start ofg a TKM race and see if many of them look bothered about a push start!

You also need to think about the logic here. Look who's winning in TKMs... do you see many (any!) TAGs or even CLUTCHED engines winning?

Secondly, every component on a race vehicle can fail. Karts don't have many (any?) non-essential components so that if ANY one item fails: your race is OVER! So.... every single component that you add increases the chance that SOMETHING will fail and that will stop you WINNING/racing! Adding a clutch is daft enough.... adding a starter as well is plain BONKERS!

Ask yourself, if self starters are SO good.... why are they NOT fitted to F1 cars? F1 cars are RACE vehciles and you don't fit 'fripperies' to race cars!

You will hear the old chestnut... "if I spin I can restart with a TAG...." How many times have you seen someone win or get a 'podium' after they have spun to a stop.... even if they DO have a starter? Why doesn't that also apply to F1 cars......?

Without a starter, your driver will LEARN N*O*T to spin as often. Without a TAG, he'll soon learn all the techniques of avoiding a 'stall'! It won't work EVERY time, but it'll make him a damn sight better driver!

I'd also still claim that being a club TKM driver is MUCH cheaper than being a club Rotax driver.....
