Carb. wear. Butterfly spindle is brass and wears, but it also wears in the body. A new spindle improves things, but really old carbs. simply wear too much.
I found that sonic cleaning the carb. body did not improve the 'hold', and usually caused slow 'leak' of pop off pressure. I assumed that the wearing edge of the brass needle valve seat was somehow corroded. A new sharp edge to this seat gives best pop and hold.

How many people actually remove the needles when cleaning the carb? Only a small amount of dirt can impede fuel flow, especially on the high jet. Have you checked that the carb. butterfly is not going over center due to too tight a throttle cable over the ages?

Don't keep rebuilding your carbs. Blow them clean of fuel after use. If when next used it fails to hold get some fuel into it and try again. The castor oil can stick after a while and fresh fuel can release this. If still dumping completely this needs further inspection. Carbs. rarely go off sat in the box.

Do take the top off and remove fuel on the engine side of the pumping diaphragm. This will improve fuel pumping.

Do check the fulcrum. Some are aluminium and can wear quickly. Most are bright metal and last well. It takes time to get the spring and fulcrum to operate at the correct pop off and hold so don't be to hasty to bin the old fulcrum.

Attention to detail. Pop 8 to 9, hold 6 to 7. Below 5 can lead to starting problems, but hey, whatever suits you.

If it's not broke don't fix it. Opening up the carb. invites the introduction of dirt if not done in a clean environment.

Although over the ages I have gathered lots of good carbs. mostly 820's but some other good ones not 820. The brand new carbs. are very good when set correctly.

Chris34 problem is fuel starvation similar to partially blocked jet in a fixed jet carb. In TKM Extreme the carb. settings are low jet 2.5 turns plus/minus 5 minutes and high jet 10 minutes, eg just cracked open plus some. The BT82 loves fuel. Gives power, keeps it cool. If you are not flying on these settings there is a problem.
