Indeed, Russ. We over-45s typically have more disposable income and time, and yet MSA karting does its damndest to shut this market out.*

Gearbox karts, which for whatever reasons seem to attract an older demographic, provide another perfect example in this respect: where will you now find the only strong gearbox kart grids in the country? Answer: Strubby, which is – you guessed it – independent or ‘Indikart’ or ‘IKR’ (formerly known as ‘non-MSA’).

*Mind you, it’s no wonder when the marketing for a new book on karting starts out thus: “Karting is a useful first step on the ladder to becoming a professional racing driver…”. Professional??? My definition of that is being paid a living wage to do the particular activity. That’s hardly ever the case anywhere in motorsport, and yet this is what is being peddled. It’s poison. The National Lottery at 14m to 1 offers better odds.
