Personally I think that there are to many types of classes and engines which dilutes the grids down.
I race in rotax and my son has just started out in Hondas. When I was looking for a cadet kart for him, I was totally baffled as to which kart to get (Honda, Comer, WTP) and then on here people were going on about "supercadet" amongst other formulas and considering I was already involved in karting and had half an idea then I dread to think what new starter goes through.

Once someone goes through all the pain of starting out I would be interested to see the ratio of how many of them see a season out before packing it in. Yes the recession will be a factor but I feel that we treat Novices as outcasts and probably that welcoming.

Regarding keeping costs down at club level (not super 1) I find it sickening to the amounts of money people will spend ultimatley to win a plastic trophy. I was chatting to another parent in the paddock only this weekend who has suggested to the club we race at to limit a competitor to 1 engine a season (engine number and seal declared at the start of a season). Formula 1 cars are limited to 5 but for some reason the bloke next to me in the paddock feels it necessary to have 10 rotaxs!

One last note, just brought an ARKS pack for Ł47. It contains a DVD videoed in the 80's, A pink A4 Sheet and a load of catalogues for karting shops that will be given away at the kart show next month.... Ł47 seriously!!!!
