Ensure that wax type suff has been removed from the tip of the needle it should be almost black in colour not silver, never 'pop off' your gaskets, just pump them up to 17ish and see if it holds, ensure the needle is sitting correctly and not losing pressure there, mine was after only 3 hrs.
Go richer on the low and buy some carb adjusters so your lad can set it on track

Or ignore everything I said above and send it to Lee like everyone else and you will find out more in 10min phone call with him than in a few days testing with this carb.
