I can accept your comment about 'no mates' but you are missing the resource that is at the track. Talk to others and they'll usually be willing to help. You only need ONE friend as there is a perfectly good pushing technique, even with a weak person. If you are disabled, that's another matter: I simply don't know if you are.

Yes, forward momentum can be used to maintain the revs while 'starving' BUT, the moment they drop below the critical level, you are dead! The same is true of DD BUT that level is MUCH lower. Taking a simple rolling lap, should the leaders decide to slam on the brakes, the concertina effect will cause some of the rear karts to drop below the 'rev band'. How do I know? Because it was a STANDARD technique used to flood the following drivers! You CAN starve yourself of fuel..... if you are willing to take the risk..... The risk (the critical rolling speed) is MUCH lower for a DD motor.

The weight of your crankshaft is part of the rotating mass of the motor. Weigh your crank then weigh the clutch and you'll find what percentage the clutch adds to the flywheel effect. Its a significant, substantial amount..... if you believe that the amount of rotating mass matters on a kart engine.

Perhaps you haven't found how to 'tune' the handling by raising or lowering the weights. You CAN change the handling by moving a block of lead up or down. You CANNOT do that with a clutch. It's STUCK in one place, up/down. side-to-side and back-and-forth.

Whether you win races depends, as much as anything, on the opposition. If you are winning BIG races with a clutch..... then that WOULD be 'evidence', without, it's just anecdote. Count how many clutches get used at the Festival by the front runners. If it was a 'good thing' why aren't THEY all running them?

Having said all that, it's YOUR choice: do what you want! I am just illustrating the 'downside': you can accept my point or reject it.... and that's how it should be!

The day that your starter motor doesn't work on the grid, or that the clutch fails and prevents you from making the final, you'll get the point: increasing the number of parts that CAN fail increases you chance of having a failure! That's simple probability!

It's STILL your choice!

Ian
