Ian,

I was thinking of you when the pole man let his revs drop too low and he couldn't keep his engine running on the formation lap today. Felt for him, in fact was gutted he didn't race as he's a quick and clean driver that's a joy to race against.

But you're right, it's clearly a risk. I'd pinched off my fuel hose, and was blipping the throttle gently, so could run as slow as him without oiling or stalling.
