I always fitted 3 or 4 SETS of mounting holes for EACH seat-stay. Then, as conditions dictated, I'd move the seat forward or backward and, in the wet forward and UP! Obviously, that made the seat look like a Swiss cheese BUT, so long as I used large pop rivets and attach Aluminium or Steel plates in the area surrounding the seat holes, then, the seat lasted longer than a single-hole-seat WITHOUT plating.
However, being long-bodied, I had to mount the seat lower than recommended for dry conditions and I used to wear-our the seat-bottom before the side holes began to suffer at all.... so.....
