The crank pin of the Rotax Max was modified with an offset at one end where it went into the crank shaft on the timing pickup side.
It had the effect of advancing the timing while looking completely normal from a visible check.
You had to split the crank to detect the modification.
To understand the modification, imagine getting three paint tins and stacking them neatly.
Then, move one tin sideways a little, that is what the crank pin looked like.
Obviously it required careful assembly to get the crank balanced in the centres.
They didn't get them all either.
There were also some Dellorto carb parts made by a certain race car company.
