I use the slc's at clay and it's true that they are only this cheap because they are discontinued stock. I'm an advocate of harder tyres but what we have found with the slc is yes it will last a long time but it has lost performance. So to keep the costs down you need to force the drivers to use them for multiple rounds, as we do at clay. Otherwise they'll still be buying new every time.

The reality is that the new age maxxis tkm tyre is perfectly capable of lasting 3 rounds. You don't need to go for a hard tyre to get the costs down. It is a different driving experience though and much easier on the body as cornering forces are lower.
