That's exactly what I would expect a long term user to experience.

But you could equally get an X30 user to denigrate the X30 by saying he's broken down three times in a week with a bent axle, lost chain and flat battery, people tend to blame anything but themselves and prefer to listen to rumours, not necessarily by Fleetwood Mac though.

The starter problem is not a new phenomenon and has been apparent on Rotax for years! I will point out though that Rotax never did anything to address the problem, whereas 'IAME' have and are working on it, as you have experienced.

The connector on the ECU is not suitable as it's lifted from a PC motherboard connector that never gets exposed to water unless the cat pi$$es on the machine.

I expect this will be changed in the very near future but you can fill the back of the plugs with a hot melt glue to help matters and it is allowed, Mills have flexibility, a big key to X30's success.

There's always niggles on any engine or chassis and you either live with them, do something about it or leave karting (recommended).

I think people were wrong footed when the X30 burst on the scene here and had such a fast take up, leaving many expensive Rotax engines as door stops with a cheap price tag on them and causing a lot of resentment.

But a change was due and those who thought they were sitting pretty with the largest market share got a massive slap where it hurts, in the pocket. A well deserved slap in my opinion because they NEVER listened to a single suggestion in over ten years.

As an example, you were stuck with a non adjustable carb, crap air box, crap switches, non charging battery, a water pump requiring an engine strip, awkwardly mounted fuel pump, radiator on the wrong side for financial reasons, an exhaust made from old Lancias and Trabants, huge variations in specifications! a clutch that was suited more to a moped and plastic gears that shattered.

So don't whine about the X30 and convey the pit lane bull$hit that abounds about it in the 'sport' or game.

IF here had been a seal on the X30, it would NOT have succeeded and we wouldn't have promoted it, it brought back the tinkerer and engineer to karting and the man in the street can fettle his engine by himself and still be a front runner. You can now clean a piston ring or change an oil seal at the trackside. It's not all about engines, you need a good driver but it's always easier to blame the chassis, tyres or engine or the guy in front who simply MUST be cheating :)

My local engine builder now has shelves of only X30's for service, such has been the impact of it on karting, with just the occasional Rotax hobby engine that has blown up or disintegrated through years of neglect.

The other attraction is you can follow through from junior to senior with the same engine and not have to buy a new engine like the step from junior to senior Rotax.

Stick it on any chassis, it doesn't need to be green in colour.

Enjoy the positives and stop looking for negatives to justify staying with Rotax! it's dead and the EVO will be far too late to use the defibrillator on it.

By the way Jim, can you recommend a loom maker please?
