Thanks gents for the replies.

I also noticed yesterday on the new plug that there is actually some indentations on the cap which look like its maybe suppose to lock the brass cap.

Maybe in giving it a nip with the pliers I am actually destroying Denso's attempts to lock it on.

I shall see how long this one lasts.
