I've been trying to set the carb up on my daughters engine and I am more confused now after reading everything on the interent on the subject !
Does anyone know for certain it the initial paddle height setting by Walbro is taken from the base of the carb or is the gasket supposed to be fitted ?
In this state if you test the pop off it's either not working at all or so high it's more then the gauge can read.
After testing a few different heights I have set it to 0.5mm from the carb face and it all seems to work. On average the pop off is 11psi and it settles again at 5psi.
It's proabably as good as it will get but I have noticed a couple of things when testing it.
As you increase the pressure it holds as it's supposed to until it pops off but the diaphragm moves slightly just before full pressure is reached. It looks like the needle valve is leaking slightly, sealing due to the diaphragm acting on it and them popping off at a slightly higher pressure.
I don't have another to compare it with so I don't know if it's normal or not.
Is this the reason why people say that Walbros should be tested assembled ?
