I have been wondering whether to comment, not knowing your level of knowledge.Are you familiar with ' four stroking' where the engine just 'goes off' when it reaches certain revs and won't run cleanly or rev higher?
Caused by too rich a fuel to air mixture and simply cured by easing in the high speed fuel screw on the carb.
Given that on these engines the high speed screw is run at around 1/5 to1/6 turn from fully closed,
make small adjustments as running the engine too weak will damage the engine.
