I went to practise at my local track when it was chucking it down with rain and sleet for virtually non stop for the whole day. I learnt a hell of a lot about driving in the wet. The best thing was that because it is easier to drive a kart in the wet you don't get tired so you can stay out for ages. The only thing I had to worry about was running out of fuel, lol.

I went there with a mate of mine who raced in the same class and we followed each other and pushed each other as if it were a race. We also tried going out on slicks (track was empty) to seek out the grippier parts of the track, and one of us going out on inters and the other on full wets to see how much difference there was between the two.

At the next meeting it was dry all day Saturday and dry for the Sunday morning practise and then it chucked it down for the first heat. I found that everyone was driving on the wrong line and seemed so slow and were slow especially in the first few laps. I just had the confidence to nail it from the green light and had full confidence in how much grip was available even though I had not got to the first corner. My results improved vastly especially in comparison to my dry running results.

I haven't had the money to do many races or even track days this year but I know exactly where my money will be spent when I get back into it and that's bum in seat time.

Chris.
