The easiest way is to mix up a batch of caustic soda and pour this into the exhaust - propped up so that it stays in.
Leave it overnight and you will tip out a load of gunge.
Can't really say how often you should do this or define a power loss. In Neil's case this was a new exhaust that just did not work. Just imagine if you had bought that £65k engine and the exhaust Neil bought! Would you have guessed which one had the problem?
There are so many things that can impact on performance so as Neil says it is all down to plenty of track time with a mechanic who knows his stuff and a driver who can give you/your mechanic good feedback.
The first thing you are looking for is the `magic moment' when your driver is consistent enough for you to start doing some serious testing.
What a crazy sport - but we love it.
