there is a race meeting at Shenington this weekend with practice on Saturday and then one at Whilton the following weekend.
Your best bet is to visit one of these tracks and chat to people there - karters are a very friendly bunch generally.
There are minimum weight limits for most kart classes.
If you can make Shenington this weekend go to the Spellfame van (parked near the burger van) and speak with Richard Lloyd - he knows a lot about karting and will point you in the right direction. Richard also goes to whilton. At Whilton you will also see the Protrain awning as you go in and Gary Chapman is another good guy to talk to.
There are many other people who will help you but these two are a good start point.
