What's the deal with Rotax clutches?

Hi, we have recently moved from 100cc to a Rotax Senior and are becoming increasingly worried about clutch failure. We are hearing lots of stories that we should always carry a complete clutch as a spare just in case - we are hearing about pins breaking, shoes breaking, clutch springs breaking, back plate failure, shoes jamming - all in all, they don't sound too reliable!
We have had the clutch springs done and all seems to be OK at the mo but is there any preventative maintenance we can do? It has been suggested we take the clutch drum off after every meeting and give it a good clean and also copperslip the shoes around the pivots - is this right?
Or would it be better to change to the new, all-metal clutch? Are these proven and reliable? Given the cost of the old clutch, I would think the new one (if reliable) would be a good investment?
I know there are a lot of questions here but I am trying to make an informed decision on whether to keep with the old or go for the new.
Any info would be greatly appreciated
FYI, we run at a local club once a month, non-MSA and have no intention to do MSA just yet.
Kind Regards
Booney
