Can you alter the engine position on its mounts , or maybe by re-drilling the mount a little further outboard to move the chain line away from the carrier .
Another idea if that is not possible is to use button head socket cap bolts which dont stand out quite as far as the cap head type that most people use so you gain a few extra mm clearance that way .
