If it'll fire on full throttle, theres no need to clean it out. It sounds like the mixture is too weak, and you flooded it by over choking to compensate. If its got a Walbro carb, and a foam air filter, I'd try similar settings to a BT82, 1/8th turn on the high and 2 turns on the low, a bit richer if no filter.
