A Rotax revs at about 1000rpm less than a TKM but has about 10bhp more. It therefore follows that rebuild intervals should be pretty similar (certainly not over 5 times longer as quoted by Rotax). People run TKM BT82's around for 50 plus hours but nobody serious about their racing will do so. The maximum most racers will run is about 8 hours.
If Rotax engines are known to grenade at 25-30 hours (as indicated above), a realistic rebuild interval would be about half this, say 15 hours. Of course, if the engines weren't sealed it would probably consist of a two bob bearings and seals change rather than a large engine builders bill.
