I have received a response from the MSA.

"The Kart Technical Group met on the 14th October and there was a majority vote to apply a ban to all chassis protectors, regardless of material etc. as per the following extract from the minutes of the meeting:

2009/21 FRONT CHASSIS RAIL PROTECTORS
The Chairman reported that the CIK are to ban all chassis rail protectors from 1.1.2010. The question of whether other options, such as nylon protectors will be permitted by the CIK was asked, Mr Anderson commented that they are banned on the basis of the hazard of debris, regardless of material. The majority vote of the Group was to follow the CIK and ban chassis protectors from 1.1.2010 on the grounds of safety.

The decision of the CIK has been made to ban all chassis protectors (with the exception of brake disc protectors) and the Group felt that the MSA regulations should reflect this."

I suggest as many people as possible get in touch with the MSA to get our views across.

However the wording of the regulation is still very much under review and also whether certain materials/designs etc. will be permitted.
