Hi,
make sure when you test for a spark you are spinning the engine quickly as these take quite a few revs to build up enough voltage to create a spark. Also make sure you have a good plug that you KNOW works. If you know anyone with a similar set up, ask to borrow a coil just to test it. As Ian has said, the coils can break down quite easily if the plug or HT lead is not earthed properly when the engine is spinning.
