"The TKM Festival has quite adequate TV coverage and the entry is £80... Thats half the price of the Super 1 entry. "

Alan Turney personally puts his hand in his pocket to pay for the coverage. The Festival is a by-product of TKM's success over the years, and that success contributes to an income for Tal-ko from tyres, engines, parts etc. It is Alan's way of putting something back. He doesn't tell you he's paying a significant amount for it, and doesn't ask for thanks. The S1 series as such is also a commercial entity, but does not have the same level of income from the wholesale supply of tyres (only the retail element), engines and parts supplies. JKH and S1 are separate businesses (so you cannot compare the two) and S1's income is mainly made up of registrations/entry fees. I always said that drivers would never be delighted to pay for S1 TV coverage, and say that "they (S1) should provide it anyway for what we pay". The fact is, what was being paid was nowhere near enough to cover the costs of TV production, so a realistic consideration was made, and applied.

"Super 1 have had such a bad reaction to this because the increases are not justifiable".

John has justified the increases with a clear statement, detailing why the increases have been made. I accept you may not like it, but he has been very clear about his vision and what he is trying to achieve. The numbers in Rotax are the best for years, and likely to be more by the end of the month, and MSA is also strong for this time compared to last year. The bad reaction came mainly from TKM drivers, so a decision, based on listening to those views, was made to reduce the cost for TKM and remove the coverage. Ironically, he is now getting stick from some people in TKM for doing that, although most of them seem to call him or email him personally, rather than perhaps post on this site. As for people not using the site as a moan platform, it is a fact that the site does serve as a (albeit brilliant) platform for whinging, and is constantly full of inaccurate statements, wrapped up as "facts". I've been misquoted so many times on this site myself, most recently last week, that I have lost count.

"Poor planning, poor view of your customers and an extremely poor attitude."

PLANNING: He asked the questions (maybe not EVERY person was consulted, but enough were, and he got the response that led to the TV decision. POOR VIEW of CUSTOMERS: For such a busy man, he spends more time on the phone talking to them than many in his position within the industry. POOR ATTITUDE: He remains very positive and upbeat, despite some of the bile aimed at him personally. I'm sorry Paul, I accept you don't like some of the decisions, but much of what you are saying is just simply not true.

"I hope all unregistered TKM drivers have made the same decision as us. They won't be registering because somebody somewhere is being a little greedy with the margins. Its not even as if it is re-invested to provide a better service i.e. a disgraceful website."

A significant amount has been re-invested in equipment to try and stamp out cheating. Compare what S1 are charging to other series: Stars at £200 a round for example, and then the European events of similar standing: massively more expensive, and it is the lowest cost for an entry, and now has film coverage. (I've already made the point before about the fact it is not just the TV coverage that will be important for some, it's the film record of the event that stays with you for decades afterwards). As for the website, Graham Smith has the results on that site before most people get home! The site itself is easy to navigate and tells you what is happening. Okay there's no flashy animations, but you might find that changing at some point, having seen some work Adrian Bibby has done. There are always things going on behind the scenes that people are not aware of. It's not that it's not happening, just that it takes time.

"S1 - Get Real"
I accept you don't like what's happened and have voted with your wallet, as is your right. I hope we can at some point encourage you to reconsider, as it will be a shame to not see you racing this year as what would have been one of the favourites in your class. (I'm already reconsidering a new name for my Rd 1 graphics as I speak!). If not, then no doubt you will find a great championship at club level to be part of..... no bad thing when clubs need support also.

PS I'm gonna have to ask John for even more money to cover my role as "Website PR & Moan Responder".... so may have to increase the fees even more! LOL
