Quicktime should play the video from the cameras. Make sure you have the latest version. Put the video on the hard drive in case the transfer speed from your card reader is not up to it.
Maybe your laptop doesnt have a fast enough processor for the HD video. In which case try MPEG Streamclip to downconvert to standard definition and try to play that new file.
The full quality HD is very demanding on a PC
