I've heard of people going below 10, sometimes to 8psi, but they all advised on having bead retainers when doing so. This is something i saved regarding tyre pressures:

Try 18psi to begin with and go from there, increasing by 1psi either way until you get the grip level you require without overheating the tyres. Get your mechanic to have a pressure tester with him when you come in after a practice session and check the pressures immediately. If they are raised by 2psi, then that's about right. Anymore than 2psi means that pressures are too high, and vice versa.
