you don't need a gearbox kart engine. And old 100cc water cooled Formula A/ICA engine will do a lot better. They have 40bhp, are much more compact and simpler =) there always going on eBay at around 200-300pounds like these:

Your kart will go much quicker with one of these on it and the thrill you'll get with one of these beauties revving it's nuts to high heaven beside you will be unbeatable, because they rev to around 21,000rpm. Thomas................
