Not suggesting anyone acts as a vigilante but just wonering how serious people are about stopping the problem - if it is still considered to be one.
First we have the MSa clarification from November which Scott raise for this thread. That suggests that it may still be an issue.
The MSA highlighted the potential danger of damaged or wrongly fitted nosecones and sidepods and asked scrutineers to check these. However even if they pick this up at scrutineering it does not stop parents/teams changing back before the race. therefore the best place to check would be on the grid when people have indicated they are `ready to race' and therefore `race legal'.
As scrutineers are busy casrrying out checks from previous races they are unlikely to be available on the grid. Most clubs would find it difficult to find extra scrutineers to cover both the grid and the scrutineering bay.
So, the next option would be for a grid marshall or other club official to do this but as IanB pointed out, it is hard enough to get anyone to do the basic grid marshal job without adding this potential extra agro.
Next step is to consider asking a parent (or other person)to do the checks as an official of the club (not as a vigilante). I agree that most people who signed the petition were cadet parents but they also were sufficiently concerned to sign it.
Those are just some ideas about how to SOLVE this problem (if it still exists). Alternatively we can all leave things as they are and just have a good old rant on the forum next time someone gets hurt.
