The coil will still deliver a spark with the battery voltage down to 11.5 volts. It draws very little current, just milliamps, when energising the coil and only needs to deliver high amerage during starting. If the battery is mounted directly on the chassis it could be the problem. Also if it has not been charged regularly it will have sulphated. I would go with Raceinstructors tip on the broken baffle as this saps the power if the end breaks off and turns sideways in the exhaust.
