The lead can be replaced and that is what I would recommend that you do. The fact that it is still working is down to luck. When you pulled it out of its socket you would have damaged the carbon conductors in the end of the lead and the spark is probably jumping the gap at the moment. Buy a length of lead from a motor factor or kart shop. You can unscrew the old piece from the plug cap and fit the new length of lead by just screwing it into the coil and plug cap. do not over tighten as this will damage the core and you will be back to square one. People have been shortening ht leads in the belief that the spark arrives at the plug gap more quickly. Given the phenomenal speed of light and electricity, you have to wonder what planet they are on.
